Dana Laird Memorial

Supporting the California Conservation Corps at Yosemite

We discovered an opportunity to support young women getting connected to the outdoors in Yosemite National Park, as part of the California Conservation Corps program. The Dana Laird Fund made a donation of $5,000 to the Yosemite Conservancy, and today we received this note back from them regarding the program:

On Wednesday at the California Conservation Corps' closing ceremony at the end of the field season, our Director of Projects presented Ive Lopez with an award for outstanding achievement in the 2010 Yosemite CCC, in memory of Dana Laird and made possible by the Dana Laird Memorial Fund.

Miss Lopez received a plaque and was recognized in front of her peers and mentors in the program. I'm told it was a beautiful occasion and a happy surprise for the winner. We'll be sure to follow up with some photos from the ceremony and some information about Ive and why she was chosen as the recipient.

This was a wonderful idea, Bruce. We are very grateful for your support of the CCC program and I'm so happy we were able to recognize an outstanding female participant doing great work in Yosemite while honoring Dana Laird and her life.

Many thanks again, we'll be in touch soon with the specifics!
